General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) has entered a strategic partnership with SVP Aerospace to enhance mission equipment capabilities for the Do228 NXT special mission aircraft. The collaboration focuses on delivering robust, flexible data transmission solutions, enabling reliable communication between the aircraft and a wide range of ground and airborne targets, including ships, vehicles, ground stations and other aircraft.
At the core of the partnership is the integration of SVP Aerospace’s proven transmission technology, capable of handling up to four HD video streams or a single UHD stream with low latency and high stability. This significantly expands the Do228 NXT’s operational capabilities, making advanced data-sharing tools available to defence, security and emergency service operators worldwide.
The upgraded system allows operators to transmit diverse data types in real time, including metadata, coordinates, still imagery, live video feeds and infrared content. Importantly, both the type of data and the transmission pathway can be configured according to mission requirements, providing a high degree of operational flexibility.
Three primary data link options are available. The IP Satellite DataLink ensures global coverage, making it suitable for remote or long-range missions where terrestrial networks are unavailable. The IP Cellular DataLink uses standard mobile networks, including 5G, and is particularly effective for low-altitude operations where signal coverage remains strong. The third option, the AVS RF Antenna, enables direct line-of-sight communication over distances of up to 160 kilometres, offering a reliable and cost-efficient solution for operations within visual range. These systems can be deployed individually or combined to create a layered communication architecture.
The Do228 NXT’s inherent versatility, combined with these enhanced data transmission capabilities, strengthens its suitability for a wide spectrum of missions. These include surveillance and reconnaissance, maritime patrol, search and rescue, environmental monitoring and emergency response coordination. The result is a fully connected platform capable of delivering real-time situational awareness in complex operational environments.
