Honeywell Aerospace has secured a three-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from the U.S. Army, to repair and overhaul its T55-GA-714A turboshaft engines, which power CH-47 Chinook helicopters operated by the US Army and military customers worldwide.

The agreement will help sustain high fleet readiness and performance across US and international Chinook operators. All repair and overhaul work will be carried out at Honeywell’s Engine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Centre at the company’s Aerospace headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona.

Honeywell has applied proven commercial best practices at its Phoenix facility to increase T55 repair and overhaul capacity while reducing turnaround times.

“For the T55 repair and overhaul line, we use the same proven, robust processes as our FAA-certified operation supporting industry-leading turbofan engines for premium business jets,” said Brian Laughton, Senior Director and Site Leader of Honeywell Aerospace’s Phoenix MRO facility. “Applying these commercial processes has enabled us to double capacity and significantly reduce cycle times, helping us consistently meet our delivery commitments.”

The CH-47 Chinook is the world’s leading heavy-lift helicopter, serving the US Army, more than 15 international military operators and a number of commercial customers. Since 1961, Honeywell has tripled the T55 engine’s horsepower while improving fuel efficiency and reducing maintenance requirements for operators.
