NATO has selected Saab’s GlobalEye as its next-generation airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) platform and will begin formal negotiations for the acquisition of up to ten aircraft, Secretary General Mark Rutte announced at the Alliance’s summit in Ankara, Türkiye.

The procurement forms part of NATO’s programme to replace its existing AEW&C fleet and modernise its surveillance and situational awareness capabilities.

Based on the Bombardier Global 6500 business jet, GlobalEye combines Saab’s Erieye Extended Range radar with an advanced suite of sensors and a multi-domain command and control (C2) system. The platform provides long-range surveillance across land, sea and air, enabling the detection and tracking of low-observable targets, drones, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, even in environments affected by heavy clutter and electronic jamming.
