CFM International (CFM) has secured a record order for more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines from IndiGo, alongside new engine selections from aircraft lessors Jackson Square Aviation (JSA) and SMBC Aviation Capital.

The memorandum of understanding with IndiGo will power 510 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft and marks the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines, as well as the biggest in CFM’s history.

The agreement also includes long-term support for IndiGo’s expanding fleet, covering spare parts, material services and assistance in establishing the airline’s planned engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility.

“As IndiGo embarks on its next phase of growth towards becoming a truly global airline, we are delighted to extend our long-standing partnership with CFM International,” said Willie Walsh, Chief Executive Officer designate of IndiGo. He said the LEAP engine’s proven reliability would support the airline’s rapid expansion, operational resilience and sustainability ambitions.

Separately, Jackson Square Aviation selected LEAP-1A engines to power Airbus A320neo-family aircraft from its previously announced Airbus order, while SMBC Aviation Capital finalised an agreement with CFM for LEAP-1A engines to power 35 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft.

The announcements strengthen CFM’s position in the single-aisle aircraft market as airlines and lessors continue investing in next-generation, fuel-efficient fleets to meet rising global demand for air travel.
