Saab and Embraer have signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) that could see up to 20 additional Gripen fighter aircraft assembled at Embraer’s Gavião Peixoto facility in São Paulo state, Brazil.

Under the proposed agreement, Embraer would assemble the aircraft alongside Saab’s final assembly line in Linköping, Sweden, expanding production capacity to help meet growing global demand for the Swedish fighter.

The move marks the latest milestone in the companies’ decade-long partnership and is designed to increase delivery capacity through a globally integrated manufacturing model while providing greater flexibility for future export customers.

Embraer said its Gavião Peixoto site has become a strategic aerospace manufacturing hub with advanced production capabilities, a skilled workforce and an integrated supply chain involving Brazilian and international suppliers.

The agreement also builds on the extensive technology transfer programme established under Brazil’s Gripen acquisition. Over the past decade, Brazilian engineers, technicians, pilots, assembly operators and maintenance specialists have received training in Sweden, helping to strengthen industrial expertise and support the long-term development of advanced aerospace manufacturing capabilities in both countries.
