Rolls-Royce has secured new Trent engine commitments from Somon Air and Philippine Airlines, strengthening its wide-body order book.
Tajikistan’s Somon Air has selected four Trent 1000 XE engines to power two new Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The order follows LATAM’s purchase of six Trent 1000 XE engines earlier this year and marks another win for the latest variant of the Trent 1000.
The 1000 XE incorporates upgrades introduced through Rolls-Royce’s two-phase durability enhancement programme, including a redesigned high-pressure turbine blade that increases cooling airflow and delivers up to three times the time on wing compared with earlier versions.
Meanwhile, Philippine Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding for 18 Trent XWB-97 engines to power nine Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. The agreement also includes engine coverage for up to five additional aircraft under the airline’s purchase rights, providing flexibility for future fleet expansion.
The companies also signed a proposal for Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare service, which will provide long-term engine health monitoring and maintenance support for the fleet. The latest agreement builds on Philippine Airlines’ 2023 order for nine Trent XWB-97-powered A350-1000s.
