The US Army has awarded Collins Aerospace a contract worth up to US$472 million to provide engineering services supporting the modernisation and sustainment of its CH-47 Chinook fleet.
The RTX business will deliver avionics upgrades designed to support the integration of new capabilities, address obsolescence and strengthen the helicopter’s avionics architecture.
Collins said the work will help maintain the Chinook fleet’s mission readiness while enabling the aircraft to adapt to evolving operational requirements.
The contract will also support greater commonality across the US Army’s aviation fleet through the development of open, reusable avionics architectures that can be integrated across multiple aircraft types.
According to Collins, the approach is intended to simplify technology insertion and integration while reducing programme costs and schedules.
Work under the contract will be carried out in Huntsville, Alabama, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
