CDB Aviation, the Irish subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing, has delivered the first Boeing 737-8 to Romanian flag carrier TAROM, marking the aircraft’s entry into the airline’s fleet.

Bucharest-based TAROM plans to add four 737-8 aircraft under a mix of operating and finance leases. The first two are being leased from CDB Aviation, with the second due for delivery this autumn.

The fleet renewal forms a key part of TAROM’s restructuring plan, which aims to optimise its network, improve operational efficiency and enhance the passenger experience.

The 737-8 is expected to improve fleet efficiency while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by about 20% compared with the aircraft it replaces, according to the companies.

TAROM plans to deploy the new aircraft on routes linking Romania with major European capitals as part of its fleet renewal programme.
