IAG Engine Tech, the new engine MRO business of International Airlines Group (IAG), is exhibiting at MRO Europe for the first time, using the event to outline its plans to expand into the third-party market while supporting IAG airlines’ narrow-body fleets.
The company builds on more than 50 years of engine maintenance experience developed by Iberia Maintenance. Its current capabilities cover the V2500, CFM56 and GTF-PW1100 engines, with operations based at the engine MRO facilities in La Muñoza, Madrid.
From early 2027, IAG Engine Tech plans to add maintenance for CFM International’s LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines under the CFM LEAP Premier MRO licence. This would make it one of eight LEAP Premier MRO providers worldwide and one of three in Europe. The company also plans to expand its production capacity and technical specialisation over time.
The addition of LEAP engines will extend the company’s portfolio to five engine types: the V2500, CFM56, GTF-PW1100, LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B. The LEAP-1A powers the Airbus A320neo family, while the LEAP-1B is used on the Boeing 737 MAX.
Iberia, IAG Engine Tech’s majority shareholder, has signed an agreement with Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation for the trading and investment group to acquire a minority stake in the company. IAG will retain majority ownership through Iberia.
