Textron Aviation has reached a key stage in the development of the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3, with the successful maiden flight of its second flight test aircraft, known as P1. This marks a substantial step forward in the business jet’s certification campaign, which aims to bring the updated model into service by 2026.
The flight, piloted by James Bearman and Corey Eckhart, lasted three hours and 29 minutes. It reached a cruising altitude of 45,000 feet and a top speed of 305 knots. The test primarily focused on avionics and systems evaluations, with further trials planned to assess interiors and human factors. According to the crew, the aircraft performed in line with expectations, providing a smooth and uneventful flight.

The CJ4 Gen3, which was first unveiled at the 2024 NBAA-BACE (National Business Aviation Association – Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition), is Textron Aviation’s latest advancement in the light jet segment. Equipped with Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics, the aircraft offers one of the most comprehensive suites of standard features in its class.
Designed for single-pilot operation, the CJ4 Gen3 delivers a compelling mix of performance and versatility, with a range of 2,165 nautical miles, a maximum cruise speed of 451 knots, and capacity for up to 11 occupants. It serves a variety of missions worldwide, from executive transport to air ambulance and special mission roles, building on the legacy of the renowned Citation family.
