Honeywell has reported an expansion of its contribution to Japan’s defence modernisation efforts through the delivery of cutting-edge aerospace technologies for two pivotal helicopter programmes. These latest contracts not only widen Honeywell’s presence within Japan’s defence industry but also underscore the company’s enduring commitment to mission readiness and the long-term performance of its systems.
As the Japanese Ministry of Defence continues to bolster its airborne capabilities, Honeywell is playing an increasingly vital role in upgrading both new and legacy aircraft with next-generation technologies. The company’s comprehensive range of advanced systems enhances aircraft power, navigation, safety, and situational awareness—key factors in improving operational reliability in complex and evolving mission environments.
In support of the ongoing upgrade of Japan’s established H60 fleet, Honeywell is set to deliver a suite of crucial technologies throughout the year. These include the 36-150 auxiliary power unit (APU) and the RDR-7000 weather radar system, alongside newly introduced versions of the APN-209 radar altimeter, air turbine starter (ATS), embedded M-code GPS/INS (EGI), 60kVA generator, and high-efficiency LED lighting. These components will replace older systems, delivering improved resilience, easier maintenance, and heightened mission effectiveness.
Furthermore, Honeywell has been selected to provide an extensive array of systems for Japan’s next-generation CH47F heavy-lift helicopter programme. This includes the powerful T55-714A engine, 36-150 APU, 45kVA APU generator, M-code EGI, RDR-7000 radar, Next Generation APN-209 radar altimeter, and a high-intensity LED searchlight. These advanced systems will furnish the CH47F with the power and avionics capabilities required to support diverse operational needs, from tactical transport missions to humanitarian assistance.
