STS Aviation Services (STS) has secured an important extension to its CAA Part 21J Design Organisation Approval (DOA), significantly enhancing its capabilities in the repair and modification of turbine engine components.

This latest approval marks a strategic advancement for STS’s UK-based design team, now authorised to develop and certify minor modifications and minor repairs on a range of nacelle structures. These include air intake cowls, fan cowls, thrust reversers, and core cowls, supporting greater flexibility in maintaining turbine engine systems.

The expanded scope permits STS to approve minor repairs and unrepaired damage to both metallic and composite secondary structures. It also allows for modifications to existing structures through the design and installation of replacement parts. Furthermore, STS can now apply protective treatments such as corrosion-inhibiting compounds, sealants, and coatings, and is authorised to design and install aircraft liveries, placards, and other exterior markings.

These new permissions build on STS’s existing 21J capabilities, strengthening its in-house engineering offering across both airframe and engine systems. The move reinforces the company’s position as a versatile and responsive MRO provider, offering design solutions that match the pace and demands of modern aviation. With this expansion, STS Aviation Services further underlines its commitment to delivering comprehensive, forward-looking support to operators across the industry.
