Boeing has selected Liebherr-Aerospace to supply the brake remote electronic unit (REU) for the B777-8 Freighter, expanding the companies’ long-standing collaboration on commercial aircraft systems.
The REU acts as a data concentrator within the aircraft’s braking system, supporting the new active brake monitoring system while meeting EASA and FAA requirements for latent failure detection. Liebherr began developing the technology in 2018, with the design intended for a range of monitoring, control and data management applications.
In addition to the B777-8 Freighter programme, Liebherr supplies Boeing with the main landing gear steering control unit for the 777 and the nose wheel steering unit for the B787. The brake REU is the second remote electronic unit the company is delivering to Boeing.
The brake REU is developed and manufactured by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg in Germany in cooperation with CUONICS, while the steering control units are produced with Liebherr-Electronics and Drives.
