Boeing has received an amended type certificate (ATC) from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the 737-7, clearing the aircraft for entry into commercial service.
The certification follows a multi-year programme conducted under FAA oversight, including extensive flight and ground testing, human factors evaluations and system safety assessments. The approval validates the aircraft’s design and enables Boeing to offer the 737 MAX family to an additional market segment.
The 737-7 is the longest-range variant of the 737 MAX family, with a range of up to 3,800 nautical miles (7,040 km). It is aimed at airlines operating from airports in high-altitude and hot-weather environments. The aircraft seats 135-160 passengers in a typical two-class configuration.
The certification campaign included nearly 700 flight-test hours across 440 flights and around 350 ground-test hours, supported by tens of thousands of pages of documentation and extensive engagement with the FAA.
Boeing said the aircraft delivers around a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, while cutting the noise footprint by about 50% compared with the aircraft it is designed to replace.
The 737 MAX family has accumulated more than 7,200 orders, with 2,360 aircraft delivered as of the end of June 2026.
