Vietnamese airline Vietjet and French technology group Thales have signed a maintenance, repair and overhaul contract covering components for Vietjet’s Airbus A320 and A330 fleets, the companies said.
Under the Repair-By-The-Hour agreement, Thales will provide component maintenance services aimed at improving aircraft availability, reducing operating lifecycle costs and speeding up repairs, they said.
The deal comes as aviation forms part of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between France and Vietnam, established in October 2024, and will draw on Thales’ global maintenance network as Vietjet modernises its fleet.
The companies also signed a memorandum of understanding covering digital aviation, avionics, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The agreement will explore technologies for optimising flight operations, data-driven maintenance and Thales’ connected aircraft services.
The cooperation will also examine the use of AI and cybersecurity to protect Vietjet’s critical aviation systems through cloud-based security solutions, predictive analytics and decision-support tools, the companies said.
Thales said it has more than 800 AI specialists and combines aviation expertise with technology capabilities in areas including cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
