Universal Avionics has announced that Eirtech Aviation Services (Eirtech) has secured European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for its data link solution on the Airbus A320 family.

The certification marks a key milestone in the programme, providing airlines with a new option for equipping A320 aircraft with advanced data communications capabilities.

Eirtech selected Universal Avionics’ UniLink UL-801 system for its A320 upgrade programme in 2024. The certified solution offers a cost-effective way to introduce Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 (ATN B1) Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and airline operational messaging capabilities.

By replacing routine voice communications with text-based messaging, the system is designed to reduce pilot workload and the risk of communication errors while improving operational efficiency. It also supports more efficient flight planning, en-route operations and access to European airspace.
