SAS Group’s traffic decreased by 14.8% during January and seat capacity was down 9.8% vs 2008. Total passenger load factor in January was down by 3.6 p.u. to 60.7%.

For the month of January, Air Canada reported a load factor of 78.1% on a consolidated basis with Jazz, versus 77.9% in January 2008, an increase of 0.2 percentage points. System traffic decreased 8.5% on a capacity reduction of 8.8% system wide.

American Airlines reported a January load factor of 73.8 % a decrease of 2.8 point versus the same period last year. Traffic decreased 11.7% and capacity decreased 8.3% year over year.

Copa Holdings, S.A. and its Copa Airlines and Aero Republica operating subsidiaries, released preliminary passenger traffic statistics for January 2009. For the month of January, Copa Holdings’ system-wide passenger traffic increased 15.5%, while capacity increased 18.0%. System load factor for January 2009 was 77.8%, a 1.7 percentage point decrease when compared to January 2008.

JetBlue Airways Corporation reported that its traffic in January decreased 7.1%t from January 2008, on a capacity decrease of 5.1%. Load factor for January 2009 was 74.0%, a decrease of 1.6 points from January 2008.

Frontier Airlines announced preliminary traffic results for January 2009 for both Frontier’s mainline operation as well as its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lynx Aviation. United Airlines reported its preliminary consolidated traffic results for January 2009. The company reported a January consolidated passenger load factor of 75.2%. Consolidated traffic decreased in January by 10.9% on a consolidated capacity decrease of 10.5% compared with the same period in 2008.

WestJet announced strong January traffic results with a record January load factor of 76.8%. Revenue passenger miles (RPM) increased 10.3% year over year and capacity grew 9.4% over the same period.

Republic Airways reported preliminary passenger traffic results for January 2009. Traffic in Januar decreased 2.6% from the same month last year, while capacity increased 1.7% The load factor was 62.8% versus 65.6% in January 2008.

Continental Airlines reported a January consolidated (mainline plus regional) load factor of 73.2, 3.6 points below the January 2008 consolidated load factor. Consolidated traffic decreased 11.0% and capacity decreased 6.5% as compared to January 2008.
