ST Engineering's Commercial Aerospace division has signed a 15-year maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contract with Indian carrier Akasa Air, to provide MRO solutions for the LEAP-1B engines that power its Boeing 737 MAX fleet.
As part of the agreement, ST Engineering will deliver the first performance restoration shop visit (PRSV) service for Akasa Air's LEAP-1B engines at its aerospace facility in Singapore. This partnership encompasses Akasa Air's current fleet of 25 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, along with the 201 additional aircraft scheduled for delivery over the next eight years. Having recently established LEAP-1B engine testing capabilities and expanded its MRO capacity, ST Engineering is well-positioned to support Akasa Air's long-term growth and operational efficiency.
Tay Eng Guan, Senior Vice President and Head of Engine Services at ST Engineering, added, “ST Engineering's appointment as Akasa Air's exclusive LEAP-1B engine MRO solutions provider for the first PRSV service reflects strong confidence in our deep expertise and ability to be a trusted long-term partner. This milestone partnership also underlines our growing support for LEAP-1B engines and our commitment to helping airlines focus on their operations and business growth while we maintain their engines.”
ST Engineering was the first independent MRO provider in Asia to join CFM International's LEAP open MRO ecosystem under a CFM-branded service agreement in 2023. The company's Commercial Aerospace business recently achieved testing capabilities for both LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines at its Singapore facility and is currently expanding its capabilities to include LEAP PRSV.
