Embraer and Regional One said that BermudAir has become the second airline worldwide to operate the Brazilian planemaker’s E190F freighter, with the aircraft marking the first deployment of the converted jet in the Americas.
BermudAir will operate one E190F leased from aircraft lessor Regional One, expanding the airline’s existing passenger operation serving destinations across the Caribbean, the United States and Canada.
The Bermuda-based carrier currently operates two E175s and two E190s and serves ten destinations. The addition of the E190F will allow it to transport express cargo, including shipments for local businesses, e-commerce and other time-sensitive freight, the companies said.
“Cargo is a natural next step for us,” BermudAir founder and Chief Executive Adam Scott said, adding that the freighter would allow the airline to extend its existing network and operational capabilities into cargo.
Regional One has placed five firm orders for E190F aircraft since the freighter programme was launched, Embraer said. Two converted aircraft have already been delivered and entered service.
The E190F is based on Embraer’s E-Jets family, which has been in commercial operation for decades. The freighter is designed for the express cargo market, including routes to smaller and decentralised markets.
The aircraft offers more than 100 cubic metres of cargo volume across its lower and upper decks and can carry up to 13.5 metric tonnes of payload, according to Embraer.
