Greek airline Aegean Airlines (Aegean) has appointed Michalis Kouveliotis as Chief executive, succeeding Dimitris Gerogiannis, who is stepping down after 20 years in the role.
Gerogiannis, a founding executive of the company, will remain involved as an adviser, overseeing the technical base and training centre as the group develops its business.
Kouveliotis took over as CEO on October 12, having served as Chief Financial Officer since before Aegean’s listing on the Athens Stock Exchange. He became deputy CEO in early 2025, overseeing the coordination of the company’s business divisions as part of the leadership transition.
Aegean Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis said Gerogiannis had helped establish the airline’s focus on service quality, customer care, fairness and collaboration alongside co-founder Theodoros Vassilakis.
He added that Gerogiannis would continue to support the company as it moved from its founding leadership team to a new generation of executives.
Vassilakis said Kouveliotis had demonstrated his ability to guide the airline through periods of growth and crisis, adding that his work as deputy CEO over the past two years had helped prepare the company for the transition.
