Turkish Airlines has signed an MoU with CFM International to buy more than 300 LEAP-1B engines, including spares, to power its planned fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The agreement covers 100 firm Boeing 737 MAX orders and 50 options announced by the airline on September 23. A long-term services agreement will cover the airline’s entire LEAP-1B engine fleet, including previously ordered and delivered engines, spares, engines fitted to leased aircraft and potential future options.
The arrangements cover more than 600 LEAP-1B engines operated by Turkish Airlines and its subsidiary AJet.
The MoU was signed in Istanbul by Turkish Airlines Chairman Murat Şeker, Turkish Technic Chief Executive Officer Mikail Akbulut and Safran Chief Executive Officer Olivier Andriès. Safran is one of the two parent companies of CFM International, alongside GE Aerospace.
The deal also includes a material services agreement with Turkish Technic to support the establishment of an engine maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Türkiye.
Turkish Airlines currently operates 96 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft powered by CFM56-7B engines and 79 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft powered by LEAP-1B engines, including aircraft operated by AJet, according to the company.
