Barnes Aerospace, a global force in component repair services and the production of advanced aero engine parts, has announced a leadership change with the appointment of George Whittier as its Chief Executive Officer, effective May 12, 2025. The position marks a new chapter for the company as it becomes an independent platform under the broader Barnes Group Inc. umbrella. Current President, Ian Reason, will remain with the group as Senior Vice President until December 2025 to facilitate a smooth leadership transition.
Whittier brings more than 20 years of experience from the manufacturing and defence sectors, having most recently served as CEO of Fairbanks Morse Defense. In that role, he was instrumental in transforming the business from a naval engine supplier into a diversified defence contractor. His leadership has been defined by a clear strategic vision, strong commercial insight, and a deep commitment to operational excellence.
Thomas J. Hook, President and CEO of Barnes Group Inc., expressed confidence in Whittier's appointment, stating the new CEO is “an ideal leader” to drive Barnes Aerospace forward. The move is part of a broader strategy to increase focus and effectiveness in response to growing aerospace demand.
Antoine Munfakh, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Partner at Apollo, added that the company will continue to invest strategically in talent, systems and processes, reinforcing its capability to meet complex customer needs and foster growth.
Whittier's professional background includes executive roles at The Morey Corporation and the founding of the Wisconsin Defense Industry Council. His academic qualifications include a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from Queens University of Charlotte.
